Gas-phase and liquid-phase analyzer capabilities

For gas-phase and liquid-phase emmisions, the lab has the capabilities to measure:

  • CO and CO2 with California Analytical infrared analyzer model ZRH (CO) and model 200 (CO2), respectively,
  • NO-NO2-NOx with Thermo Environmantal Instuments analyzer model 42C
  • O2 concentration with a ZA8 (Yokogawa Electric Corporation) zirconia oxygen analyzer averaging converter system
  • Gas-phase hydrocarbons with several gas chomatographs (GC), including two Varian micro-GCs for the analysis of H2, CO, N2 and other light gases
  • Condensable hydrocarbon tars from biomass gasification with a refined method for extractive collecting, quantifying and characterizing these compounds
  • CO, CO2, CH4 and O2 with a California Analytical Instrument
  • GC/mass spectrometers
  • High-performance liquid chromatography
  • Speciated mercury measurements with laboratory’s Tekran 2537A mercury analyzer and conditioning system.

FTIR spectroscopy capabilities:

  • Simultaneously measurement of Carbon Monoxide, Carbon Dioxide, Sulfur Dioxide, Nitric Oxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, Nitrous Oxide, Water, Hydrogen Bromide, Hydrogen Chloride, Hydrogen Fluoride, Hydrogen Cyanide, Formaldehyde, Acrolein, Ammonia, Methane, Ethylene, Propylene
  • Heated sample probe, sample line and measurement cell to avoid condensation
  • 165 oC cell temperature, 650 mmHg cell pressure
  • Maximum temperature of gas before the sample probe: 500 oC
